David's Profile

David is fifty something, comes from London and works as a salesman. He started playing when he was 14 and immediately joined a school band. His first solo performance was at school in a talent contest - he came last out of 3 in the solo section singing a really sad song (in all senses of the word) called Nobody's Child. But in the group section accompanying 2 older girls singing 'House of the Rising Sun', he (they) won the competition. Apart from developing a liking for older women, he also developed a need to join a band.

Several years of performing in pubs and working men's clubs followed in a band called Sam, then he joined an original band called Backlash. Although they had limited success (very limited) David left the old country for pastures new - the Middle East. This didn't stop the creative urges - he joined "Fool's Goal" in Saudi Arabia (actually making money in the process); followed by "Jag" in Bahrain. This was his finest hour - he was nominated as Best Guitarist in Bahrain in a major competition!

Next day on the radio, he was compared to Mark Knoffler of Dire Straits - Honest! Following a move to Dubai, he joined "Martin Goes To Adjman" ("Frankie Goes To Hollywood" was popular) then on his return to England he gave the world a break and stopped playing for 10 years! Only by moving to Cornwall was he able to get back to music. (One of the pictures shows David during his Peter Frampton phase.)

As far as singing goes, it can only be described as, "David tries hard". A popular addition, 'Teenage Dirtbag' seems to get a good reception. Really, it should be entitled 'Grey Haired, Balding Dirtbag'.

David's guitar heroes are:

Brian May (Queen)
Paul Kossoff (Free)
B B King
Jan Akkerman (Focus)
Del Bromham (Stray) ...... and many others. Sadly, he doesn't play like any of them.

In the past, David has owned many guitars, all of which were regrettably sold or swapped. For example, a 60's Gibson 335 12 string (almost impossible to play); Ovation Breadwinner (with active electronics); Vox Teardrop 12 string; 60's Gibson Firebird 3 (swapped for a car); 70's Chris Eccleshall Firebird;

various 60/70's Les Pauls; 1973 Fender Telecaster Custom (bought new); 1981 Yamaha SG2000 (possibly one of the finest guitars ever manufactured), various Stratocasters. You get the picture...... every one of them is now worth significantly more today.

Fame at last... here is an article published in the leading UK Guitar magazine - Guitarist. It describes my beloved Les Paul.
